Benny isnât your typical dog.
He doesnât have the perfect face you see in commercials or Instagram feeds.
Born with a facial deformity that leaves his jaw slightly askew and his tongue always poking out, Benny is often overlooked by visitors at the Sydney Animal Rescue Centre
While his shelter mates are taken home within days or weeks, Benny has been waiting for nearly two years.
Why?
âPeople just walk past him,â said one volunteer. âSome even whisper he looks âweirdâ or âsadâ. But Benny? Benny is full of joy.â
Despite his appearance, Benny has no health problems. He loves belly rubs, plays fetch like a pro, and does an adorable wiggle when he hears the sound of kibble.

But the world has been slow to accept a dog that looks different.
âHe doesnât know heâs any different,â says caretaker Jess, whoâs spent countless hours with him. âHe only knows how to love.â
This resilient pup is a reminder that beauty isnât found in symmetryâitâs found in spirit.
And Benny has it in abundance.
He greets everyone with a wagging tail, cuddles close to nervous children, and stays patiently by the door every evening as if waiting for his person to finally show up.
