From Emaciated Pup to a Thriving Companion

Sugar Snap’s story is a true testament to the power of love, care, and resilience. Rescued from near death, this malnourished puppy was found in a desperate state and brought to One Tail at a Time (OTAT) in Chicago. He was so emaciated that he looked like nothing more than a skeleton, weighing only 19 pounds despite his large frame. His body was covered in sores, and he could barely move.

Thankfully, the rescue team immediately took action and got him emergency care at Premier Veterinary Group, where Becky Ritchie, an emergency room vet, played a key role in his recovery. Sugar Snap required 20 days of intensive hospitalization, blood transfusions, plasma treatments, and numerous medications. His condition was dire, but thanks to the vet’s expert care and the compassion of those around him, Sugar Snap began to heal.

As his health improved, Sugar Snap’s true character began to shine through. His playful nature and loving demeanor emerged, winning the hearts of everyone who met him. Becky, who had initially intended to foster him, found herself deeply attached to the resilient pup. She and her partner, also a vet, decided to make him a permanent member of their family.

Now, Sugar Snap has transformed into a healthy, energetic dog, weighing 52 pounds. He’s enjoying walks, playtime, and the loving care of his new family. His story is one of hope, perseverance, and the incredible bond between humans and their pets. Sugar Snap, once an abandoned, emaciated pup, is now living his best life, proving that with the right care and love, even the most broken souls can heal.
