Four Hairless Puppies Find Hope on Lake Thurmond

On a routine kayaking trip at Lake Thurmond, South Carolina, a compassionate woman stumbled upon a heartbreaking sight: four tiny, hairless puppies, mistaken at first for mud balls, trembling on the shore. These fragile creatures, later named Kayak, Canoe, Paddle Board, and Raft, were in dire need, suffering from severe Demodex mange that left them nearly furless and visibly scared.

Moved by their plight, the kayaker acted swiftly, gently gathering the puppies into a container and rushing them to Final Victory Animal Rescue. The shelter staff, stunned by their condition, noted their emaciated state and extensive skin issues. “They were almost completely hairless,” said Leslie Rider Osmanski, the rescue’s medical manager. With medical baths, topical treatments, and abundant care, the puppies began their remarkable recovery.

Demodex mange, common in dogs with immature immune systems, was no match for the shelter’s dedication. The “Water’s Edge Puppies” thrived, their personalities shining through as they transformed into healthy, playful pups. Though their origins remain a mystery—likely abandoned by an uncaring owner—their futures are bright. Each puppy found a loving forever home: Evie (formerly Canoe) in Pennsylvania, Worthy (Kayak) in Washington, Dobby (Paddle Board) in Massachusetts, and Pudge (Raft) in South Carolina.

This heartwarming story showcases the power of kindness and the resilience of animals. It reminds us that every pet deserves a chance at a happy life. Have you ever helped a stray animal in need? Share your story below and let these pups inspire you to make a difference.
