Sometimes we set ourselves up for our own embarrassment, and last night was one of those times.

So picture this: It’s around 1AM. I had just gotten off work not too long ago, but I wasn’t tired. You know that weird second wind you get when you should be sleeping but instead you’re wide awake and bored out of your mind? Yeah, that was me.

In my infinite wisdom, I hit up my homeboy and told him to pull up. He was down, said he just needed to shower real quick, then he’d be on the way. Easy enough. I’m sitting there, chilling, literally wide awake. Everything is going according to plan.

And then… the Four Loko came into the picture.

Listen, I don’t know what possessed me to crack open that can, but I did. A couple sips in, and all of a sudden my body decided it was bedtime. I thought, “Let me just lay down for a little bit until he gets here.” You already know how that went.

I woke up at SIX in the morning. SIX. My phone lit up with his texts, and there I was, looking like the world’s biggest clown. I invited him over, told him I’d be up, and then straight-up KO’d before he even got in the car.

Now I can’t stop thinking—if the roles were reversed, would I be mad? I mean, I didn’t flake on purpose, but I still had him thinking I was awake and waiting. 😭😂

Honestly, I feel bad but also can’t stop laughing at myself. Who tells someone to come through at 1AM and then falls asleep before they even show up? Only me, apparently.

Moral of the story: don’t mix boredom, late-night plans, and Four Loko. Unless you want to wake up embarrassed at 6AM with some explaining to do.
