Stray Pup Begs Through Gates Until A Loving Hand Reaches Out

“Her long month of loneliness had finally ended — and she knew it.” 🥹

When Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, opened a message about a stray dog last month, her heart sank immediately. Over the years, she had answered countless cries for help across Los Angeles, California, but this one was different. Instead of roaming the streets in search of scraps, this pup wandered door to door, pressing her face against gates, silently begging for food — and perhaps for love.

“For more than a month, she would peer into yards, waiting for someone to notice her, to feed her,” Hall shared on Facebook.

The photo attached showed a desperate little face staring through a front gate. Hall didn’t hesitate — she called her friend and fellow rescuer, Mary Nakiso, and rushed straight to find the pup.

It wasn’t long before they spotted her — later named Makena — and began the delicate process of earning her trust. Hours passed as they tried to guide her toward a humane trap, almost succeeding, until a neighbor angrily kicked the trap, sending Makena fleeing in terror.

“She bolted into the darkness,” Hall recalled. Heartbroken, the rescuers had to pause their mission until dawn.

The next morning, hope returned. Makena reappeared at the home of a kind woman named Janet, who had been leaving out food and water. Soon, the shy pup began following Janet and her dog everywhere.

Hall knew this was the moment. Unlike before, Makena stayed close, her guard finally softening. With Janet’s help and a generous neighbor who opened his yard, they gently guided her inside. To everyone’s surprise, Makena didn’t even need the trap — the man simply scooped her up.

“I cried tears of joy the whole drive back,” Hall said.

Safe in Hall’s car, Makena curled into a blanket on the front seat, her tiny nose peeking out. For the first time in weeks, she could rest.

Her month of homelessness was over — and she knew it.

At Camino Pet Hospital, Makena received a full checkup and a warm bath. Thankfully, she was healthy and soon moved into a loving foster home. There, she’s been blossoming — discovering what it means to live in comfort, surrounded by love.

“Makena is pure sweetness,” Hall told The Dodo. “Now, she can finally sleep with both eyes closed, knowing she is safe.”

Though she’s still waiting for her forever family, Makena is no longer alone. What began as a lonely search through gates has ended with open arms — and a second chance at life.
