I know dogs are very curious about their surrounding and especially german shepherds are more prone to tickle anything that moves. However incident from last night shocked me how smart they can be given the situation.
It was getting dark and my boy marco was chilling at the front porch which he likes doing most of the time. I suddenly heard him whining and barking at something so I naturally went to check on what was happening. When I went outside to my horror i saw a 5-6 feet long common krait (snake fairly common at my geographic location but not seen much near residential areas, very venomous) trying to climb the front porch.
My boy was not attacking at this point but was essentially blocking its way to climb up the porch. But when my boy saw me approaching, I dont know what happened maybe his protective instinct fired up but he grabbed the snake from its tail end and flung it away from me, by the time I reacted he had flung it twice and took it as away he could from me.
At this point my first priority was to keep my boy safe so i grabbed him and took him inside, snake started running away, forest department was called who later found the snake and rescued it.
By the gods grace my boy was not bit in this altercation however I called a vet friend of mine to have a look who later confirmed he was safe. Me, my boy and snake all were safe at the end.
But I couldn’t fathom how smartly and gracefully he handled the situation. The way he flung that snake it felt like he was aware how dangerous that thing is so he maintained minimal contact possible.
