International Rescue Dogs in Nepal — Trust in Every Paw

At 7 years old, Locxa, a German Shepherd, was recognized as one of Nepal’s international rescue dogs — a true symbol of reliability and courage. Over the past two years, he made two international missions: responding to disasters in Turkey in February 2023 and in Myanmar in March 2025. In Myanmar, Locxa detected four distinct scent zones, leading rescue teams to six victims lost in landslides

Locxa’s handler, Mr. Linh, describes him with just three words: “absolutely dependable.” As Nepal expanded its international rescue cooperation, Locxa became a leading figure among the dogs sent abroad.

Working alongside Locxa is Zunka, a 5-year-old Malinois with a sharp, unwavering scent. While Locxa often leads initial searches, Zunka specializes in confirming the last detection points. When Zunka barks, rescuers know without doubt there is someone buried beneath

These canine heroes trained rigorously in Nepal — often simulating disaster zones, navigating debris, and enduring varied terrains. Their partnership with handlers forms a critical force in international response operations, blending trust, agility, and discipline.

The metaphor of Locxa and Zunka as Nepal’s “four‑legged detectives” reflects the nation’s evolving commitment to global disaster relief. Through tireless work in foreign terrains from the rubble of Turkey to Myanmar’s landslide zones—they embody how animals and humans can unite for life‑saving missions

In addition to their rescue missions, both dogs serve as ambassadors: their stories raise awareness about the capabilities of rescue dogs and improve community trust in international cooperation. Locxa and Zunka remind us that age or breed doesn’t limit heroic service — but character and training do.
