Rescue Puppy Maple Discovered in Critical Condition on Mohawk Street

Earlier today, two passersby made a heartbreaking discovery on Mohawk Street. A lone puppy walking in the middle of the road caught their attention—and as they stopped to help, the pup led them into nearby bushes where two other puppies were hiding.
One of them, a small black puppy now named Maple, was in urgent need of medical care. Barely able to lift her head, Maple was weak, unresponsive, and suffering from visible wounds. Her sibling refused to leave her side, gently licking her wounds—a silent show of loyalty and love.
Puppy in Critical Condition: Maple’s Medical Emergency

Veterinarians quickly diagnosed Maple with a severe botfly infestation. She was too weak to stand for more than a few seconds and had begun experiencing seizures. Although bloodwork ruled out parvovirus and distemper—common and often fatal diseases in young dogs—her fever remained dangerously high. Her condition continued to decline as seizures persisted throughout the night.
Despite the odds, Maple has shown small signs of resilience. Her medical team remains committed to providing her with around-the-clock care, monitoring her vitals, and administering medication to manage her symptoms.
Animal Rescue Story: Hope for a Second Chance
Maple’s story is a testament to the strength and vulnerability of rescue puppies. Though her journey is far from over, the quick actions of strangers, the loyalty of her sibling, and the care of dedicated veterinary professionals have given her a fighting chance.
Her condition remains critical, but she is not alone. Surrounded by people determined to see her through, Maple continues her fight—one breath, one heartbeat at a time.
