No one could have imagined that above the noise and chaos of the city, on the roof of an old 5-story apartment building, an entire secret world had existed — where a group of stray cats had survived, undetected, for nearly four years.

The story began in the summer of 2021, when a pair of abandoned cats somehow ended up on the rooftop. Trapped by fear and isolation, unable to make their way down, they learned to survive — hiding in crevices, sheltering near vents, and scavenging scraps blown up from balconies. Over time, they had kittens. Then those kittens had kittens. A small rooftop colony slowly formed — silent and unseen.

No one knew they were there until one day, a repairman was called in to fix a leaking metal roof. As he opened the access hatch, he was stunned by what he saw: nearly a dozen cats staring at him with wide, frightened eyes, as if the world below no longer belonged to them.
News spread quickly. An animal rescue group stepped in and spent two weeks carefully gaining the cats’ trust. Eventually, all were safely rescued. Miraculously, despite the harsh conditions, none of the cats suffered from serious illness. They were cleaned, vaccinated, and later adopted into loving homes.
Residents in the building were moved by the story. Some even began leaving food on the rooftop — a tribute to the “invisible neighbors” who had shared their space for years, just a few meters above their heads.
