Five years ago, Reddit user Kite adopted a puppy unlike any other. With his wrinkled face and soulful eyes, Buddyuddy quickly became more than a pet — he became family. Together, they built a life full of loyalty, joy, and the promise of never leaving each other’s side.

Then, a single Facebook post changed everything.
While scrolling one day, Kite stumbled upon a picture of a dog on Dallas Animal Services’ euthanasia list. At first, it was just another heartbreaking plea for help — until Kite zoomed in on the photo. The face staring back looked achingly familiar.
“I realized she looked like my dog and immediately inquired about her,” Kite later wrote on Reddit.

The truth was staggering. The dog in the post was Candy — Buddy’s littermate. Adopted years ago by another family, Candy had been surrendered back to the same shelter. Now, she was out of time.
Without a second thought, Kite rushed to the shelter.
When Kite first met Candy, the sight was heartbreaking. The poor girl was timid, head lowered, tail motionless, her spirit worn down by years spent outside. She was also heartworm positive. Life had not been gentle with her.
But love was waiting.

“She was so scared when I first picked her up,” Kite recalled. “You could just tell how hard she’s had it.”
Then came the moment that changed everything.
As soon as Candy saw Buddy again, recognition sparked. Tails wagged, eyes brightened, and in an instant, years of separation melted away.
“They had a special bond instantly,” Kite shared.

From that day on, Candy’s transformation was nothing short of miraculous. Within days, she was wagging, playing, and discovering joy alongside her brother. What was once fear turned into trust. What was once loneliness became love.
“She now has so much confidence, loves to play with her brother, and finally knows what it feels like to belong,” Kite wrote. “She’s the best dog ever.”
Months later, Buddy and Candy remain inseparable. Though five long years had passed, fate reunited them just in time — saving Candy’s life and restoring the bond that was always meant to be. From the edge of euthanasia to the heart of a family, Candy’s story is a reminder that love can heal, and second chances can work miracles.
