Vivian Wilson, the estranged daughter of billionaire Elon Musk, has opened up about her modest lifestyle in Los Angeles, living with roommates and without her father’s financial support. In a recent interview with The Cut, the 21-year-old aspiring model shared that, despite assumptions, she does not have access to vast wealth. “People assume I have a lot of money. I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars at my disposal,” Wilson said. She lives with three roommates for affordability and is weighing the cost of enrolling in community college due to financial constraints.
Wilson, who transitioned from male to female in 2022, publicly cut ties with Musk, the world’s richest man with an estimated net worth of $413 billion. Their fallout intensified when Musk, a vocal supporter of Trump and MAGA Republicans, claimed Wilson was “killed by the woke mind virus.” Wilson fired back on social media, calling him a “pathetic man-child” and asserting her independence. She legally changed her surname to her mother’s maiden name, Wilson, after coming out as transgender at 16.
Despite her father’s wealth, Wilson emphasizes she does not aspire to be “superrich.” She appreciates having enough to cover essentials like housing and food, with some expendable income, which she acknowledges is more than many her age in Los Angeles. Reflecting on her high school experience at a private school filled with “nepo babies,” including Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple, Wilson described struggling to fit in due to her ADHD and social challenges.
Musk has publicly discussed their strained relationship, admitting in 2020 that he has “very good relationships” with his other children but struggles to connect with Wilson. He claimed he was “tricked” into signing documents related to her transition during the COVID-19 pandemic, citing confusion and concerns about her well-being. Wilson, however, remains focused on her own path, distancing herself from her father’s influence and wealth.
