Heroic Dog Saves Woman from Mountain Lion Attack

In a heart-stopping incident on the outskirts of Fort Collins, Colorado, a courageous yellow Labrador named Buddy saved 75-year-old Margaret Collins from a mountain lion attack. Late one evening, while Margaret was taking out the trash, a low growl pierced the darkness. A mountain lion, lured by the scent of garbage, had ventured down from the nearby foothills, its eyes fixed on her.

As the predator lunged, Buddy, who belonged to Margaret’s son, Daniel, a long-haul truck driver, sprang into action. Security footage captured the intense moment: the lion pouncing, Margaret’s scream echoing, and Buddy fearlessly throwing himself between them. Barking fiercely, he fought off the big cat, giving Margaret just enough time to scramble back to safety inside her home.

Neighbors, alerted by the chaos, rushed out and drove the mountain lion away. Buddy, though scratched and bloodied, survived the ordeal. Margaret, overwhelmed with gratitude, held him close, tears streaming down her face, knowing his bravery likely saved her life. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, mountain lion attacks are rare, with only 25 reported human incidents since 1990, but encounters with pets are more common in areas near wildlife habitats.

Buddy’s heroism highlights the deep bond between pets and their owners, as well as the unpredictable nature of living near Colorado’s wild landscapes. This story serves as a reminder to stay vigilant, keep pets leashed at night, and secure garbage to deter wildlife.
