Nutmeg’s story is nothing short of extraordinary a testament to resilience, love, and the power of second chances. Struck by a passing car and left injured in a snowy ditch, this brave 7-month-old puppy endured an unimaginable 12-hour wait for help. Though paralyzed and unable to move, Nutmeg’s spirit remained unbroken as she wagged her tail, a powerful sign of life amid the snow. Her body heat had formed a small hole in the snow, making it harder for rescuers to find her. The tall grass concealed her even further, making her nearly impossible to spot.
However, fate intervened when two teenagers, on their way to a skateboard park, noticed her and quickly contacted the authorities. The search was intense, but after hours of effort, Nutmeg was finally found. Despite the trauma she had endured, she greeted her rescuers with a wagging tail and a gentle spirit, refusing to let her circumstances define her.
Taken immediately to the Southern Alberta Veterinary Emergency (SAVE), Nutmeg received urgent care, and then she was placed in the loving hands of the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS). The road to recovery will be long, but Nutmeg’s resilience continues to shine. She still manages to wag her tail during her recovery, showing the world just how strong and loving she truly is.
Nutmeg’s story is an inspiration for all who hear it—reminding us of the strength animals possess and the love they give even when they’ve faced unimaginable hardships. Once Nutmeg has healed, she will be ready for adoption and will undoubtedly bring joy to the home of her forever family.
