Peanut is a sweet, playful pittie who captured hearts at the Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC). She arrived there at 7 years old after being transferred from another shelter. Little was known about her past — but one thing was clear: she was full of love.
“Despite everything, she’s remained silly, gentle, and overflowing with affection,” HSBC shared on Facebook.

Soon after her arrival, the staff discovered Peanut’s greatest joy: stuffed toys. The moment she was given a “stuffie,” Peanut would cling to it for hours, carrying it everywhere she went. In the sometimes stressful shelter environment, her stuffies became her greatest source of comfort.
From plush hamburgers to crocodiles, bones, and lambs — Peanut adored them all. “We always try to make sure she has a variety to choose from,” HSBC said in a video for The Dodo. Whether in her kennel or out on a walk, Peanut proudly carried her favorite toy along.

“She even starts her mornings by picking up a stuffie to bring with her on her potty breaks,” the staff shared with a smile.
But even with her joyful spirit and endearing quirks, Peanut was overlooked time and time again. Potential adopters passed her by, simply because of her age.
“Peanut has been with us for some time, and we truly don’t understand why,” HSBC wrote. “She greets every visitor at her kennel door with pure joy, always eager to make a new friend.”

Hoping to give Peanut a better chance, HSBC shared a heartwarming video of her with her beloved toys. The response was incredible. Not long after, a family visited the shelter and decided Peanut was the missing piece in their lives.
On adoption day, the staff made sure she wouldn’t leave empty-pawed. “Before leaving our shelter, she picked up one last toy from us,” HSBC said. “She carried it proudly as she went straight to meet her new family and brother.”
After years of waiting, Peanut finally found her forever home — and of course, she brought her stuffies along.
