When Nala was first seen, she didn’t look like a puppy at all. She was tiny, fragile, and almost unrecognizable — her fur completely gone, her skin raw and wounded, her eyes filled with silent desperation. She belonged to a family in Romania, but love and care were things she never truly knew. Instead, she lived among flies, battling a painful skin condition that left her bald and broken.
It was then that fate placed her in front of Georgiana Neagu, a rescuer with a heart as fierce as it is tender. Neagu could see through the sickness and despair; she saw a life worth saving.

At first, Nala’s family clung to her — not out of care, but out of fear of letting go. Neagu visited again and again, delivering medicine and checking on her. But each visit told the same painful story: Nala was fading. Weakness consumed her body, a severe calcium deficiency left her barely able to stand, and her spirit dimmed with every passing day.
“I had to make a choice,” Neagu shared later. “I couldn’t watch her disappear. I needed to fight for her when she couldn’t fight for herself.”
Finally, Nala’s family relented. Neagu carried her into the safe embrace of Saving Orphaned Souls Sheila’s Animal Rescue Mission (SOS ARMS), where doctors and fellow rescues surrounded her with warmth. Her new journey had begun — but it would demand courage, time, and unshakable hope.
The following months were a test of endurance. Daily treatments, careful feeding, endless monitoring. Some days were victories — a small patch of fur returning, a little more energy in her step. Other days were heartbreaking setbacks. Yet through it all, Nala remained gentle, patient, and quietly strong. She looked at Neagu with eyes full of trust, as if to say: “I believe in you, even when I can’t believe in myself.”
Her recovery unfolded like a slow miracle. First came the patches of fur that returned to her body. Her head, however, stayed bald for a while, giving her the appearance of a miniature lion. Neagu would often smile and call her the “lion cub,” a symbol of both her struggle and her resilience.

And then, at last, the fur on her head grew in. The transformation was astonishing. The once frail, balding pup blossomed into a magnificent, fluffy dog — so soft and cuddly that she was soon nicknamed a “teddy bear.”
Today, Nala’s past feels almost like a distant shadow. She is vibrant, playful, and overflowing with love. Her scars are invisible beneath her thick coat, and her spirit shines brighter than ever.
“She’s thriving now,” Neagu says. “She’s beautiful, calm, and still young, with a lifetime of love ahead. To me, she is proof that kindness can change everything.”
Nala’s story is one of survival, but also of transformation through compassion. She is a living reminder that even the most broken souls can bloom when given patience and care.
Now, she waits for her forever home — a place where her journey can continue, not in pain, but in joy. For the world may remember her as the little lion who grew into a teddy bear, but those who meet her will see much more: a survivor with a heart of gold.
