What they found inside left them shaken …
Earlier this month in the Philippines, a group of cyclists were pedaling across a bridge when a faint, desperate sound made them hit their brakes. The strange noises were coming from a plain cardboard box, left carelessly on the side of the road. Curious and concerned, the bikers approached — and what they saw made their hearts sink.
Inside the box were nine tiny puppies, huddled together, abandoned and crying for help. Without a second thought, the cyclists rushed to get assistance, quickly contacting Pawssion Project, a local rescue group known for never turning away from an animal in need.

When founder Malou Perez arrived, her emotions were mixed — heartbreak at the cruelty these puppies endured, and gratitude that fate allowed them to be found just in time. “We are always heartbroken,” Perez said, “but also thankful for the chance to save them, especially since they were already within our reach.”
Though Pawssion Project is already stretched thin, caring for over 600 rescued animals across two shelters, Perez couldn’t ignore these fragile lives. The team scooped up the pups and brought them to safety.
At the rescue center, the puppies received bottle feedings, warm baths, and gentle flea removal. For the first time, they felt safe. As days passed, their eyes slowly opened to the world, sparking pure joy among the volunteers who had given them a second chance.
“It’s always one of the most rewarding feelings,” Perez shared.

Now, the puppies are thriving — playing with toys, wagging their tiny tails, and waiting for the moment they’ll each find a loving home. Perez and her team are determined to place them with families who will treasure them, and perhaps even keep some siblings together.
“These babies deserve the best homes,” Perez said. “And we’ll make sure they get just that.”
Safe at last, the nine little voices that once cried from a cardboard box now tell a story of hope, rescue, and the kindness of strangers who chose to stop and listen.
